The present and future for FTTh use
Fiber to the Home (FTTH), also known as
Fiber to the Home (FTTP), is the installation and use of fiber to connect
directly from a central point to individual buildings such as homes, apartment
buildings, and businesses to provide high-speed Internet access. Compared with
the current most places use technology, FTTH greatly improves the connection
speed of computers available to the user.
FTTH architecture and components
Two types of systems allow fiber optic
cables to transmit data using light, making FTTH possible. They are active optical networks (AONs) and
passive optical networks (PONs).
AONs use electrically powered switching
equipment to actively direct signals to specific users. PONs use optical splitters to direct the
signal instead of electrically powered switches, which means PON users only
need electrically powered equipment on the receiving end of the network.
Benefits
1. It Improved HD video streaming performance
2. It has higher speeds over longer distances than previous technologies.
3. It is superior to other fiber configurations because the fiber connects directly to the home and can be used over Ethernet or coaxial cable to complete the remaining network segment.
Future use
FTTH has long been regarded as the
future star of access networks and the ultimate ideal of broadband development.
This is because FTTH can meet many needs of various users, such as high-speed
communication, home shopping, real-time distance education, video VOD (VOD),
high-definition television (HDTV), and so on. These services are only possible
with copper or twisted-pair wires but are easy for FTTH.
