What is Fusion Splicing Used for ?

This method of using a fusion splicer is currently the most common type of splicing used in the fiber optic industry. There is no question that this method has the lowest reflection when connecting two pieces of fiber. The light that passes through this type of connection produces very little refraction. The area that surrounds the fusion as well as the fusion itself has virtually the same strength as the two pieces of fiber it joins.

What Training Does an Installer Need?

Making a quality splice with little reflection is extremely important. Keeping this in mind, training is an important factor in creating a proper splice. Correct preparation is paramount. An installer needs to be able to strip, clean and cleave the fiber. Using the fusion splicer itself is fairly easy as the machine does most of the work. A fusion splicer is specifically designed to precisely weld the fiber. A few hours of training and a bit of practice and you should be up and running.

How is Fusion Splicing Different from Mechanical Splicing?

Mechanical splicing is another way in which two optical fibers are connected. Mechanical splicing accomplishes much the same thing as fusion splicing. However, this method differs greatly from fusion splicing. In this method, the two optical fibers are aligned and held in place by a connector. This type of splicing is in most instances very quick, easy and usually temporary. One of the benefits is that the cable can be easily disconnected if the need arises in the future. In addition, it does not require expensive equipment to complete the splice.

Shinho X-900 is a core alignment Fusion Splicer that can splice two fibers with low loss. It apply to various kinds of fibers such as SM,MM and easy to operate.
