How the Shinho LDC100 fiber optic cleaver works
In modern optical communications, fiber lasers, sensors, and other fields, the quality of fiber end-face preparation directly determines the performance of the equipment. Large diameter fiber cleavers, precision tools specifically designed for processing large-diameter optical fibers, are indispensable in the optical fiber industry due to their unique operating principle and wide range of applications.
The Shinho LDC100 large diameter fiber cleaver is a device specifically designed for preparing optical fiber ends with cladding diameters ranging from 80-1250μm.
The cleaving principle of large-core fiber cleavers is based on a "stretching + engraving" technology combination. It achieves clean fiber cleavage through the precise coordination of three key elements:
1. Tensile Force Control
During cleavage, a specific tensile force (adjusted to the fiber cladding diameter) is first applied to the fiber. Then, the diamond blade is brought close to the fiber with micron-level precision. Under this tensile force, the fiber is severed, resulting in a smooth cross-section.1
Controlling the tensile force is crucial: excessive tensile force will result in noticeable scratches on the fiber end face, while too little will prevent the fiber from being severed and severely damage the blade edge.1
2. Diamond Blade
Diamond blades (commonly known as diamond blades) are a core component in the cutting process. Their Mohs hardness reaches 10, far exceeding the approximately 7 of optical fiber.
The blades can leave extremely fine scratches (less than 1μm) on the optical fiber surface, which is essential for clean cutting. Blade edge angles typically vary, such as 40°, 50°, and 60°. Experiments have shown that a 60° angle provides the best balance between cutting performance and blade life.
3. Precision Step Control
Cutting step control is the technical foundation for precise cutting. For optical fiber with a 220μm cladding, the blade step accuracy must be less than 1μm.
The blades operate in a precise "100 steps forward, 99 steps back" mode, ensuring precise scraping of the fiber upon contact.
