PM fusion splicer used in Fiber-Pigtailed AO Modulator

  High power and high speed fiber optic acousto-optic modulator (hereinafter referred to as: fiber optic acousto-optic modulator) is one of the core components of the all-fiber laser link in the cold atomic cabinet. It has the advantages of ultra-high extinction ratio, low insertion loss and fast rise time. It can select and modulate the pulse laser, and provide stable and reliable light source for the cold atomic cabinet to trap and cool the ultra-cold atomic group.


  Optical fiber acousto-optic modulator mainly consists of acousto-optic crystal and optical fiber collimator. The modulated signal acts on the piezoelectric transducer in the form of electrical signal (amplitude modulation, phase modulation or frequency modulation), and realizes the frequency modulation and amplitude modulation of the input laser by changing the input characteristics such as frequency and amplitude modulation of the input signal. Due to the piezoelectric effect, the electric signal is converted into ultrasonic signal with the same regular change and propagated in the audio-optic medium. After the refractive index of the audio-optic medium changes periodically, a refractive index grating is formed. The laser is diffused into the audio-optic medium through the fiber collimator, and the frequency of diffused light superimposes an ultrasonic frequency on the original input laser frequency. The position of the optical fiber collimator is adjusted so that the optical fiber acousto-optic modulator works in the best state. In this case, the incident Angle of the incident beam meets the Bragg diffraction condition and the diffraction mode is Bragg diffraction. In this case, almost all the energy of the incident light is transferred to the first-order diffraction light.


  In all-fiber laser link system, the first acousto-optic module is used for the front end of the system optical amplifier to carry out optical pulse modulation of the front-end continuous input light, and the modulated optical pulse enters the system optical amplifier module for energy amplification. The second acousto-optic module is used at the back end of optical amplifier. Its function is to isolate the base noise of optical pulse signal after amplification.


Different acousto-optic modules combined by fusion splicing. the splicing performence should be as good as possible to offer good SNR to keep the output power. Shinho S-12PM fusion splicer has a high PER splicing performance to support R&D and manufacture application.S-12PM could support different PM fibers spliced together and rotation splicing for panda fibers. PER could be lower than -36dB.
